“Anon” at MCC Theater
3.5 out of 5 stars
There’s an underlying rage associated with the QAnon movement, an anger reminiscent of a Shakespearean tragedy. Or at least that’s what Anne Washburn observes in “Anon,” her often smart, telling play. Here she presents two neighboring households – one dominated by a woman devoted to many a conspiracy theory, the other with a married gay couple. Naturally, a clash ensues and the Shakespearean connection is made explicit. The play relies on too many gimmicky visual cues, including an unneeded video segment, but it manages to be engaging and ultimately harrowing, especially thanks to the fine cast assembled in this production.
