“Art” at the Music Box theater
4.5 out of 5 stars
The art of Yasmina Reza’s “Art” is how it turns the glib remarks among a trio of longtime pals into a profound statement – on friendship, personal identity and, yes, art. And the art of this star-studded Broadway revival, brilliantly directed by Scott Ellis, is how it lets the work’s themes craftily sneak up on you. The excellent trio here – Bobby Cannavale, James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris – plays things so perfectly breezily and comically that you don’t even realize there’s serious stuff underneath the surface. But when it hits you – well, wow does it hit you. In all, top-notch theater. — Charles Passy
