Bryan Safi’s “Are You Mad at Me??” at 59E59 Theaters
3 out of 5 stars
Blending stand-up comedy and cabaret, Bryan Safi’s solo show “Are You Mad at Me??” showcases the comic’s quick wit and penchant for bursting into song. He has many great bits throughout — like an interactive gameshow asking if his harsh mother was "Homophobic or Serving....?" — but the biggest laughs were not at his prepared material but rather his ad libs when interacting with the crowd. “Mad” returns to a few themes intermittently, but the trite, incongruous turn toward self-serious introspection after a raucous hour won’t quite leave audiences mad at him, just maybe a bit unfulfilled. — Justin McCallum
