“Garry Starr: Classic Penguins” at Studio Seaview

2.5 out of 5 stars

Give kudos to Damien Warren-Smith for having the, um, balls to crowd surf naked as part of the many oddball antics that make up “Garry Starr: Classic Penguins.” In most cases, those antics are a visual pun, playing off the title of a classic work of literature – specifically, one that’s part of the Penguin series. Some moments can be devilishly fun, albeit often with a gross-out element (Warren-Smith actually spits food into someone’s mouth). But others are just inane and gross-outish. The real problem: The inherent joke behind the endeavor wears thin, despite Starr’s admirable energy and ingenuity.
