“Intríngulis” at Theatre Row
3.5 out of 5 stars
Carlo Albán brings his natural gifts as a storyteller, singer and observer of humankind to Intríngulis, his one-man performance piece. And he has a good story to tell – about his and his family’s journey from Ecuador to the United States and his path to American citizenship. Not surprisingly, it’s a story marked by its share of challenges (the title is a Spanish word referring to a “complex web”), which Albán illustrates with frank emotion. That said, the work could use a little more structure and perhaps a little less speechifying – Albán’s immigration story is powerful enough to speak for itself. — Charles Passy
