Jeff Ross’ “Take a Banana for the Ride”

3 out of 5 stars

Jeff Ross may not be a superstar-level comedian, but he’s nevertheless found his way to Broadway in a show that tells his life story. And generally speaking, it’s a somewhat engaging story built around the theme of surviving the death of family and friends: Ross lost both his parents by the time he was in his early 20s and later lost a few big-name comedic buddies. There’s sweet wisdom imparted throughout the show along with some funny lines, but there’s also too much preamble and a slightly all-over-the-place structure. Then again, you might score a free banana if you attend. — Charles Passy
