“Lean-To” at 59E59 Theaters

Can a play deliver on an atmospheric level but fail to hit the mark plot-wise? That’s the question you might wrestle with after seeing Stephen Sheffer’s “Lean-To,” a tale of three people who stumble upon each other at a campsite and share a night together. Thanks especially to Connor Gallerani’s spot-on scenic design, the drama truly places you in the great outdoors – you can practically smell the campfire. But the story is so paper-thin that this really becomes more a mood piece than a fleshed-out drama. The cast is solid, but they just don’t have enough to work with.
