“Marcel on the Train” at Classic Stage Company
3.5 out of 5 stars
If all you know about Marcel Marceau is how he mimed his way to fame, “Marcel on the Train” offers a telling window into a chapter from his life. The French-born Jewish artist was part of the Resistance during World War II and helped smuggle Jewish children out of the country. “Marcel,” written by Ethan Slater and Marshall Pailet and starring Slater in the title role, details the story — sometimes powerfully so — and suggests how it shaped Marceau as a creative figure. That said, the work’s 100 intermission-less minutes feel overly long, even in spite of the solid performances. — Charles Passy
