“Marjorie Prime” at Helen Hayes Theater
3 out of 5 stars
Given our current obsession with all things AI, it was all kinds of smart for 2nd Stage to revive Jordan Harrison’s “Marjorie Prime,” a play in which family members try to forge connections with AI-powered holograms of their deceased loved ones. And a telling play it sometimes is in that harrowing-in-its-implications way. But it also feels far too one-noteish and predictable in its messaging. Still, it’s a joy to see 96-year-old June Squibb happily dig into her part as the crusty matriarch. And the rest of the starry cast – Cynthia Nixon, Danny Burstein and Christopher Lowell – hold their own. — Charles Passy
