“Nicole Travola Is Doing Alright” at Soho Playhouse

1.5 out of 5 stars

Nicole Travolta is doing alright -- hence, the name of her show. But how she got there is another story, and that’s the gist of this confessional comedic endeavor. Yes, Travolta has a famous relative, and she makes reference to her uncle (cue the “Saturday Night Fever” sequence). But her familial connections couldn’t get her out of the credit-card hole she dug for herself. Perhaps another performer might find a way to mine debt issues into a tellingly funny saga, but Travolta just doesn’t make it work — the jokes generally fail to land and the tale goes on far too long. — Charles Passy
