“Other” at Greenwich House Theatre

3.5 out of 5 stars

Ari’el Stachel is an actor with considerable talent – and a man with considerable problems. Those two aspects come together in the often quite effective “Other,” a solo piece written and performed by the Tony winner (“The Band’s Visit”). Stachel delves into two issues in particular – his identity crisis as an Arabic Jew who doesn’t easily check any of the identity boxes (hence, the title) and his struggle with obsessive compulsive disorder. Admittedly, the piece goes on longer than needed and sometimes feels more like a therapy session than theater. But Stachel’s energy and charm generally propel it forward. 3.5 out of 5 stars.
