Tony winner Paulo Szot transports the audience to a bygone era, blending Broadway classics and his native Brazil's bossa nova, in his enchanting show at 54 Below. Szot’s rich tone and deep vibrato shine on selections from “Man of La Mancha” and “La Cage aux Folles,” but his renditions of Sondheim numbers, especially a heartbreakingly optimistic “Marry Me A Little,” are the highlight. Accompanied by a marvelous eight-piece band, Szot has little space to move on the intimate stage, but emphatic swishes of his hips almost make up for the otherwise visually static concert. — Justin McCallum
