“Proof” at Booth Theatre

4.5 out of 5 stars

This wondrous, Thomas Kail-directed revival of David Auburn’s “Proof” is built literally and figuratively on a solid frame: Teresa L. Williams’ clever scenic design gives us the backside view of a house such that we see it both in its lived-in state and its skeletal outline. It mirrors a play about father-and-daughter mathematicians – he struggles with mental challenges, she takes care of him. So the set becomes a metaphor for how we balance love (hominess) and logic (framework). And the cast? Likely the best Broadway ensemble – Ayo Edebiri, Don Cheadle, Kara Young, Jin Ha – you’ll see this season. — Charles Passy
