“Queens” presented by the Manhattan Theatre Club

2 out of 5 stars

Even though an earlier version of Martyna Majok’s “Queens” premiered years ago, the play, about immigrant women living in a basement apartment in the titular borough, feels especially timely today. Not that Majok’s drama references ICE raids, but it concerns itself with those striving to make a better life for themselves in this country and facing untold obstacles. Unfortunately, the play is an unfocused affair, with too many characters and storylines and too much going back and forth in time to give the narrative a cohesive flow. In turn, that makes it difficult for the talented cast to shine. — Charles Passy
