“Soon” at the Loft at St. Luke’s
3 out of 5 stars
Nick Blaemire's musical "Soon" seems to pose a provocative question: How would you spend your time if the world only had months left because of climate change? That premise appears even more resonant than when the show was first produced 11 years ago. Then, suddenly, it isn't -- thanks to a confounding plot twist over why the lead character won't leave her East Village apartment. There are sweet, appealing performances of Blaemire's winsome tunes by four actors and a versatile three-piece band, paying tribute to peanut butter, a (somehow Jewish) goldfish, and the end of the world. But too much confusion reigns. — Adam Z. Horvath.
