“The Dog Show” at the Triad Theater
1 out of 5 stars
What if our dogs could talk? If we go by "The Dog Show," sadly, they wouldn't say much of interest. Author David Javerbaum, an Emmy and Thurber award-winning comedy writer (including for "The Daily Show"), surprisingly fuels his imagined canine monologues with feeble jokes about "paw-parazzi" or getting promoted from the K-9 unit "to K-10." Doggie insights, delivered earnestly by human actors, prove either awkwardly sentimental or awkwardly obvious: pooches love their owners, and table scraps, and hate baths. Surely most dog owners have invented more entertaining pet chatter while sitting on their couches, without charging admission. Grrrr. — Adam Z. Horvath
