“The Least Problematic Woman in theWorld” at the Lucille Lortel Theatre

4.5 out of 5 stars

Following her very public transition, newfound fame, big brand deal and subsequent conservative backlash, Dylan Mulvaney is giving audiences an even more intimate look inward in “The Least Problematic Woman in the World.” The tongue-in-cheek autobiographical dramatization of Mulvaney's journey from gay twink through girlhood to ultimately approaching life with nuance is a delight. Mulvaney’s wit, vulnerability and charm keep anything from feeling overly self-aggrandizing, with campy original songs, a retro pastiche and off-the-cuff audience banter helping, too. While the structure of "Least Problematic Woman" doesn’t escape solo-show tropes, her tour-de-force performance makes those cliches easy to overlook. — Justin McCallum
