“The Other Americans” at The Public Theater

3 out of 5 stars

Instead of “Death of a Salesman,” John Leguizamo offers us the travails of a laundryman in “The Other Americans.” And, yes, it echoes the Arthur Miller classic, but through the culturally distinct lens of a Latino man (and laundromat owner) who’s chasing the American dream. The two-acter is a fairly sturdy work, though the second half feels better realized than the first. Leguizamo plays the lead role, but in some ways that may not have been the wisest casting choice: He doesn’t devour the part as much as you might expect. Fortunately, the rest of the cast delivers. — Charles Passy
