“A Walk on the Moon” at the Laura Pels Theatre
3.5 out of 5 stars
For those who know “Waitress” or “Bridges of Madison County,” the new musical “A Walk on the Moon” may feel familiar in terms of its storyline: A wife, disillusioned by a stale marriage, has an affair with a quirky, free-spirited guy. Set at a Catskills resort during the summer of 1969 — a season marked by the moon landing and Woodstock — this show doesn’t have the strong score of those counterparts, nor a book that fully explores its resolution. While not Broadway-ready, it’s enjoyable enough, thanks largely to fantastic lead performances by Talia Suskauer, Max Chernin and Sophie Pollono. — Ryan Kinkade
