“Watch Me Walk” presented by Soho Rep

4 out of 5 stars

Anne Gridley’s “Watch Me Walk” is many things at once: a daringly comedic lesson in what it means to be disabled, a powerful advocacy statement and an ambitious performance-art piece. If anything, the main issue is that the show, featuring Gridley and two other actors, is overly ambitious. “Watch Me Walk” works best when Gridley is alone on stage, telling her story as a disabled individual and letting her movement speak volumes. In any case, you will leave the theater with a deeper awareness of the issues Gridley addresses. And you may be deeply moved, especially by the final scene. — Charles Passy
